Volkswagen have announced a special edition model in celebration of the Golf GTi’s 35th Anniversary.

Since the introduction of the Golf GTi in 1976, Volkswagen have used milestone anniversaries to produce special edition versions of the car, and have kept with tradition with the Golf GTi Edition 35.

The Volkswagen Golf GTi Edition 35 gets an increase in power to 232bhp which makes it the most powerful production version of VW's iconic hot-hatch in its 35-year history.

In addition to this power increase, the Volkswagen Golf GTi Edition 35 features design elements specially created for the birthday celebration model. It has a revised front bumper, 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, and a golf ball gear-lever knob. To identify the car as a special edition model, the '35' signature logo is found on the front wings, sill plates, head restraints, and the centre of the seat upholstery.

Volkswagen plan to give the Golf GTi Edition 35 its first public appearance at the beginning of June, at the Worthersee GTi event in Austria.

Volkswagen's announcement revealed that the Golf GTi Edition 35 will be available for UK customers later this year, but did not confirm full UK specification details and price list, which they will release nearer the time.
