Vauxhall has unveiled its new Zafira Tourer, a larger, more luxurious and sportier version of the current Zafira MPV.
The current Zafira will continue to be sold alongside the new car, hence the name change, and will be unashamedly targeting Ford’s excellent offering in this segment, the S-Max.
Vauxhall unveiled the concept car on which the Tourer is based at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and prices should start from around £20,000. This is considerably pricier than the current Zafira, but the Zafira Tourer is arguably a considerably better car.
Quite apart from the looks, which are excellent, the new car will offer a panoramic windscreen which should allow excellent visibility and make for a premium feel. Vauxhall’s longstanding Flex7 seating arrangement has also been improved; all three seats in the middle row now move independently and the third row collapse into the boot floor when not in use. With all the seats folded away, boot space is an astronomical 1860 litres.
Engines will include a 1.4 litre turbo petrol engine and a normally aspirated 1.8 litre petrol. Only one diesel is on offer – the 2.0 litre CDTi – but with three different power outputs.
The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer will go on sale later this year.
