Vauxhall has announced a new kitted out version of the Astra; the ES Tech aims to compete with the similarly priced Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.
The ES Tech offers satnav, a seven speaker CD player, 17 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB digital radio and an iPod input. All of this is on top of standard Astra equipment like curtain airbags, ESP, cruise control and steering wheel audio controls. Best of all of this is available for just £18,110 for the 140PS 1.4 litre Turbo.
The 120bhp VW Golf 1.4 TSI Match costs £800 more than the Astra ES Tech and does not have satnav as standard. The ES Tech also performs better than the Golf, due to the extra 18bhp engine. The Astra ES Tech is capable of 0-60mph in nine seconds and has a top speed of 126mph
Vauxhall is also releasing a diesel version priced at £19,530. The 123bhp 1.7 CDTi engine has a combined fuel economy of 62.8mpg and has emissions below 120g/km. This CDTi is one of the greenest cars around. It is also great value for money.
