Vauxhall has added a new model to its Insignia range by installing it with its most powerful diesel engine to date.

The Vauxhall Insignia BiTurbo is available now, fitted with a 2.0-litre engine which produces 192bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque but emits just 129g/km of CO2 in front-wheel drive 5-door hatchback form. In that configuration, the new model is good for an 8.2 second 0-60mph time.

Prices for the new model begin at £27,120 for the Vauxhall Insignia SRi 2.0-litre CDTI BiTurbo five-door hatchback, with the same trim level as a £28,615 Sports Tourer Estate. Both the SRi and mid range VX-line specification models are also available with four wheel drive. The top of the range model is the Vauxhall Insignia Elite 2.0-litre CDTi BiTurbo Automatic sports tourer, which has a price tag of £33,320.

Vauxhall has achieved the improved performance figures by making substantial changes to its 2.0-litre CDTi engine already in use on other models in the Insignia, Astra, and new Zafira Tourer ranges. The major difference is a twin-turbocharger, with the smaller of the two operating at lower speeds to reduce turbo lag. This smaller turbocharger operates sequentially with the larger turbocharger below 3000rpm, with the maximum torque output found between 1750-3000rpm. At higher revs, the smaller turbocharger is bypassed, and all gases are fed into the larger of the two turbos.

In front-wheel drive hatch form, this engine returns a combined 57.6mpg.

Vauxhall FlexRide adaptive damping is a standard feature on all BiTurbo models, and on four-wheel drive models FlexRide is integrated with the car's Torque Transfer Device and the rear axle's electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential. This allows torque to be automatically switched between front and rear wheels, and between left and right wheels on the rear axle.

The new Vauxhall Insignia BiTurbo models are available to order now.
