Vauxhall has announced a new partnership with British Gas that will improve the Ampera’s charging time, reducing it by two hours.
The new agreement between the two companies aims to provide Vauxhall's customers with greater peace of mind when purchasing their electrical vehicle.
In comparison to the regular six or ten amps normally available, the new programme - called British Gas Home Charging Solution - will allow Ampera drivers to draw 16 amps of charge. This will improve the vehicle's charging time by reducing it considerably - from six to four hours.
"Our new partnership with British Gas will provide a major benefit to all Ampera customers," said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall's Chairman and Managing Director.
"We can now guarantee that new owners are assured of the very best advice about safe and efficient charging completely free of charge. It also complements our existing Ampera Customer Charter by offering customers a bespoke service, allowing them to get the very best from their car," he added.
British consumers interested in this vehicle will be able to find it in showrooms across the country from May 2012. With a starting price of £29,995, the car is also included in the government's 'plug-in' car grant.
The award-winning vehicle, which was recently named European Car of the Year 2012, is capable of travelling up to 50 miles with zero tailpipe emissions when it is fully charged.
Dan Taylor, Director of New Ventures at British Gas, also commented on the new agreement:
"Partnering with Vauxhall on powering their electric cars is a very exciting driver of growth for British Gas as electric cars move into the mainstream. With our network of engineers, we can help make buying an electric car accessible and convenient through specialist advice and the installation of charging points."
