Vauxhall has announced that its powerful BiTurbo 2.0-litre diesel engine, first seen in the Astra GTC, will be made available across the Astra range.
Both the hatchback and the Sports Tourer models will have top speeds on the scary side of 135mph and will hit the magical 60mph in under eight seconds. This will make the Astra Sports Tourer the fastest estate car in the class.
The BiTurbo engine, in case you hadn't figured it out, has two turbochargers, and this means a peak power output of 187bhp and 236lb-ft of torque. However, despite the impressive performance figures, the Astra should return 55mpg on the combined cycle.
The Astra BiTurbo will be built at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire. The order books open today and the first buyers can expect to take delivery of their new car before the end of the year.
Prices will start at £24,095 for the hatchback and £25,110 for the Sports Tourer.
