Peugeot have announced that their new 208 supermini will be coming to the UK next summer.
The Peugeot 208 will be lighter and more compact than its predecessor, the 207, and will be available in both 3-door and 5-door body styles. The French car-maker claim the 208's reduced dimensions should not compromise internal space however, and boot capacity has increased along with an extra 5cm of rear leg room.
The design heralds a new style for the Peugeot marque, with a prominent floating grille, light signature, and boomerang rear lamps.
The Peugeot 208 has a variety of diesel and petrol engine options. The entry level diesel should emit a Congestion Charge beating 87g/km and return 83.1mpg combined, while the range of 3-cylinder petrol units emit as little at 99g/km while returning up to 65.7mpg. Peugeot are also playing up the green credentials of the new car, with 25% of polymers used in its construction to be either recycled or of natural origin.
Peugeot have not confirmed full specification or pricing details with this announcement, but have confirmed the 208 will be launched in mainland Europe in Spring 2012, with a UK launch to follow in the summer.
