New figures show UK car manufacturing grew by over 3.5 per cent in the first half of of this year, and industry body, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), say the signs are good for continued growth.
The number of new model introductions has been credited with aiding growth within the sector, and with more anticipated in coming months the future looks promising for the UK car industry.
With 791,314 vehicles produced in the first six months of 2014 volumes were up by 3.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. June saw particularly strong performance, with output rising by 3.7 per cent.
"UK car production continued its steady growth in June, leading to a first half-year increase of 3.5%," said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. "With several manufacturers having started assembly of new models this year and billions of pounds of investment still to reach production fruition, this is an exciting time for the UK automotive sector. However, with this growth comes a need to bolster the domestic supply chain and address major skills shortages; both of which the UK industry is committed to addressing."
