A safety campaign group which says 98% of part worn tyres in the UK have been sold illegally will take the stand at a national gathering of trading standards officers to highlight the potential dangers of the problem.

TyreSafe will address the national Trading Standards Conference at the Harrogate International Centre later this month hoping to raise awareness of an issue which it says is putting drivers' lives at risk daily.

The non-profit campaign group aims to improve awareness of the importance of tyre maintenence, such as correct tyre pressures and the dangers of worn and defective tyres.

“As a direct result of our participation in 2013, many Trading Standards offices around the UK carried out local investigations which have resulted in numerous education initiatives and even prosecutions and arrests of unscrupulous sellers.", said TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson.

The group will use the conference to demonstrate the latest methods of safety testing part worn tyres to enforcement officers, with the aim of stepping up efforts to tackle this dangerous problem.

So, don't be a gambler, make sure your tyres are both safe and legal, and if they require replacement make sure they are supplied and fitted by a reputable trader.
