Toyota has released the first official pictures of the new Yaris ahead of its planned UK launch this summer.
The pictures show the new car - to be manufactured in France at Toyota's Valenciennes factory - which is the third generation of the Yaris model.
It will be available with a choice of three Toyota Optimal Drive engines designed for fuel efficiency and low emissions. These are the 1.0-litre VVT-i and 1.3-litre dual VVT-i petrol engines, and a diesel in the form of the 1.4-litre D-4D.
As with its updated AYGO city car range, the new Yaris is also to benefit from an improved multimedia package. Called Toyota Touch & Go, it includes a 6.1-inch touch screen display. The company anticipates this being standard equipment on 95% of vehicles sold.
The Japanese manufacturer claims the original design concept for the new Yaris was "compact outside, spacious inside", and the car features a newly-designed cockpit which the company believes will be more driver focused.
"New Yaris represents Toyota's strongest offer yet in the important supermini segment," said the company's European President and CEO Didier Leroy, "With its new levels of ingenuity, efficiency and quality, we are confident it can build upon Yaris's previous success."
Toyota hope the new Yaris will help contribute to a European renaissance for the company, and have set themselves a medium term sales target of one millions Toyotas sold in Europe every year.
