It's 20 years since the Toyota RAV4 first went on sale.
And to mark the model's anniversary, Toyota has unveiled a series of upgrades for the venerable compact SUV.
The big news is that for the first time, the entry-level diesel, 2.0-litre D-4D diesel, is available with all-wheel drive as an option. The 122bhp engine develops 229lb-ft of torque and, coupled to a the six-speed manual transmission, will return 137g/km of CO2 and 53.3mpg.
The new all-wheel drive model will be available in both Icon and Invincible trim levels. Icon models get keyless entry, push-button start, two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights and wipers, cruise control, DAB radio, heated folding door mirrors and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Invincible models get the same range of standard kit but also add either black or beige leather seats, front parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, and heated and powered front seats.
Both models can now be specced with Toyota Touch 2 with Go, the firm's latest sat-nav system and the first of its kind to feature Google Street View. All RAV4 models, bar the base-spec Active model, get Toyota Touch 2, the latest version of Toyota's touchscreen-operated multimedia system, with MP3, Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
Prices for the updated RAV4 start from £22,195 for the basic Active model in 2WD guise. AWD models start from £25,695 for the Icon model and £27,395 for the Invincible.
The new RAV4 is on sale now.
