Toyota named ‘Green Manufacturer of the Year’ | New Release - Car News Mar 2012

The prestigious Fleet News Awards have awarded Toyota with the ‘Green Manufacturer of the Year’ prize.

The Fleet News judges said that Toyota's single-minded focus on hybrid technology is really paying off, with models offering outstanding levels of efficiency and low emissions.

"Its relentless approach to environmental initiatives also extends inwards with solar panels and recycling maximising the efficiency of its factories. Toyota is an environmental beacon not just for the motor industry, but for every industry," they pointed out.

By decreasing the energy and natural resource usage, waste and emissions, Toyota has finally been recognised for its commitment to the production of eco-friendly vehicles.

These plans might be emphasised further in the near future with the impending launch of the new Prius+. The vehicle will be Europe's first seven-seat full hybrid MPV, with tax-busting sub-100g/km CO2 emissions.

Likewise, with the Prius Plug-in, Toyota will aim to provide UK consumers with a vehicle "equipped with a rechargeable battery pack for greater zero-emissions driving capability and lower running costs."

On top of this, UK car buyers will be able to enjoy the new Yaris Hybrid from this summer. The vehicle also stands out for its green features, such as 79g/km CO2 emissions and 80mpg combined fuel economy.

'Best All-Round 4×4'

Alongside being awarded the greenest manufacturer prize, Toyota was also celebrating when its Land Cruiser was named as the year's 'Best All-Round 4×4'.

The judge commented on the key attributes of the Land Cruiser:

"Land Cruiser is the perfect choice for fleets looking for a 4×4 workhorse that is equally at home lugging equipment or towing trailers around on-road as it is tackling the trickiest of off-road routes. It also has low running costs for this category of vehicle making it perfect for utility and bluelight fleets."
