The UK-built Toyota Avensis Tourer has been named the ‘Best Family Estate’ vehicle in the recent Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards.
A number of vehicles were praised in the 2012 edition of the prestigious Parkers Awards, but there was only one winner in the Family Estate category: the Toyota Avensis Tourer 2.0-litre D-4D TR.
According to the Parkers’ Cost of Motoring tool – a system which calculates the true costs associated with owning and running a new car based on factors such as fuel consumption, depreciation, servicing and road tax – the car outperformed its rivals within the competitive family estate category to take the title.
Kieren Puffett, Editor of Parkers, commented on the winner, stressing that the Parkers awards are based on statistical analysis of every new car’s running costs, rather than opinion:
“The results for the Toyota Avensis Tourer show it to be very good value for money. With a major new look and extensive changes for 2012, the Toyota Avensis Tourer has propelled itself to the top of its class to be best for value.”
“New more efficient engines not only mean lower emissions but better fuel consumption and are a major improvement over the older model. That is why the Toyota Avensis Tourer 2.0D-4D TR wins the Parkers’ Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012 in the Family Estate Category.”
An epic journey
This is not the only recognition for Toyota’s Avensis Tourer however, as recently the car was central to an epic journey across the UK.
Joe Clifford and Andrew Biddle, from Banzai magazine, were the drivers who led the Avensis to victory as the vehicle carried them across the country without having to make any re-fuelling stops.
Powered by the latest version of Toyota’s 2.0-litre D-4D diesel engine, the standard Avensis T Spirit Tourer managed more than 170 miles on the last bar of the fuel gauge alone – proving its worth as an efficient vehicle.
