Toyota has announced that the July launch of its Prius Plug-in in the UK will be complemented by a reduction to the car’s overall price – meaning the car will cost just £27,895.

As the model has low CO2 emissions of only 49 g/km, falling well below the 100 g/km threshold needed for road tax and London Congestion Charge exemption, it is also eligible for a Government-funded grant of £5,000.

The Prius Plug-in can be charged simply and easily, using a power point linked to a standard domestic or workplace supply, or an on-street charging point. The vehicle also automatically switches to its hybrid system once its electric battery is depleted.

Features included on the model include daytime running lights and headlights, Toyota Touch and Go Plus with touchscreen controls, satellite navigation, voice recognition, a rear-view camera and advanced Bluetooth for phone connection and audio streaming, a DAB digital tuner, eight-speaker JBL sound system, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.

The vehicle also boasts heated front seats, 15-inch alloy wheels with wheel caps and a leather steering wheel trim.

For an additional £1,500 drivers can opt for black leather upholstery and can also enjoy rear privacy glass for £270. Drivers also have the choice to add a Protection Pack (rear parking sensors and boot liner) and a Style Pack (exterior chrome trim elements), both of which are priced at £360.

Colour options for the vehicle body include Tyrol Silver (metallic), Novus Grey (metallic), White Pearl Pearlescent and a new shade exclusive to the model: Sky Blue (metallic).

Commenting on the vehicle, the manufacturer said:

“Prius Plug-in, which reaches showrooms in July, offers all the familiar virtues of Prius, and then some. Like its sister model, it is powered by a smooth, refined and ultra-efficient full hybrid powertrain, but thanks to new, rechargeable lithium-ion battery technology, it can cover longer distances and reach higher speeds on electric power alone, cutting tailpipe emissions to zero.”
