The 2012 Vehicle Dynamics International Awards saw the Toyota GT86 and its creators triumph in three categories.

The superb driving experience offered by the sports coupe has earned it Car of the Year (jointly with the Subaru BRZ) while Toyota also won Dynamics Team of the Year. In addition, the model’s chief engineer Tetsuya Tada was honoured with Dynamicist of the Year.

In UK this summer

The GT86 is coming to the UK this summer, and available to buy now with customer deliveries starting from 1st July.

The model has been designed to deliver an excellent driving experience, and does so with the aid of its front engine/rear-wheel drive configuration. The lightweight frame and 2.0 litre engine of the car combine with a low centre of gravity which results in superb handling.

Vehicle Dynamics International magazine’s Editor, Graham Heeps, had this to say: "In the face of rising power outputs and ever-greater levels of complication in the drivetrain, suspension and steering, cars from major manufacturers that take a less-is-more approach and offer fun at legal speeds have been thin on the ground. That's why we believe the Toyota GT86, and its twin sister the Subaru BRZ, are deserved recipients of the 2012 VDI Car of the Year Award."

The judging panel also commended Akio Toyoda, the company’s president, for inspiring the impressive achievements of the team.
