Vauxhall have revealed a new £250 option on its Insignia VXR model that could see top speed leap to 170mph.
The de-restricted package is called Unlimited, and removes the restrictor usually found on the Vauxhall Insignia VXR that limits top speed to 155mph.
Vauxhall have used prototypes fitted with the Unlimited package to complete over 6,000 miles of tests on the Nurbürgring's fearsome Nordschleife, and have now launched the option on the retail market.
Top speeds of 170mph were recorded on the hatch and saloon models fitted with manual transmission. The Vauxhall Insignia VXR is also available as a Sports Tourer, and with automatic gearbox.
The Vauxhall Insignia VXR is fitted with a 2.6-litre, turbocharged V6 engine, which generates over 320bhp. The new Unlimited option has no effect on the 5.6 second 0-60mph time offered by the manual hatchback version of the Insignia VXR.
The Insignia VXR has an adaptive 4x4 system, consisting of a sports differential with Haldex multi-disc clutch, and rear limited slip differentials. The car comes with Vauxhall’s FlexRide chassis which gives drivers the option of standard, sport, and VXR settings.
Visually, cars with the Unlimited package will display only subtle differences. For example there will be a blue Brembo logo on the front brake callipers, and a speedometer with higher increments to allow for the increase in top speed.
Announcing the new option, Vauxhall’s Group Product Manager Stuart Harris said, “For those owners who enjoy driving on the continent, the Unlimited option lets them experience the Insignia VXR's true top speed.”
The Unlimited option is available now at Vauxhall dealerships at an additional cost of £250.
