On our list of "Unlikely things to happen", Bugatti unveiling a hybrid version of the Veyron comes just behind the Pope converting to Islam.
However, according to Auto Express, it seems that the next-generation model of the fastest car in the world could indeed be powered using the same technology found under the bonnet of the dreaded Prius.
Bugatti's chief vehicle engineer, Jens Schulenberg, told the motoring magazine, "The big challenge on the next car will be reducing weight -- we are looking at some incredible technologies, such as wheels made entirely from carbon fibre. Hybrids are definitely something we're looking at, too."
This is not without precedent -- Ferrari's new F70 (the replacement for the Enzo) is rumoured to feature an electric motor and even Formula One cars are technically hybrids these days.
The current Veyron is likely to be in production for at least the next two years and the VW-owned firm is also expected to release a four-door version of the car, the Galibier, to coincide with the Veyron's demise.
