McLaren has announced a range of upgrades to the MP4-12C including a higher power output, a recalibrated gearbox and a tweaked Intake Sound Generator (ISG).

The big news is that McLaren has managed to find an extra 25bhp lurking away in the MP4-12C's 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8. The new McLaren will develop 616bhp, and while the 0-62mph time is unchanged at 3.1 seconds, the new car is 2mph faster than the old one, hitting 207mph. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions are unchanged at 24.2mpg and 279g/km, respectively.

McLaren's engineers have also been busy fiddling with the MP4-12C's transmission and the changes have resulted in a sharper throttle response and smoother and faster gear changes.

In the new MP4-12C, drivers will also be able to fine-tune the car's ISG. Depending on the powertrain mode selected -- Normal, Sport or Track -- the car controls the amount of engine noise which reaches the cabin, with owners of the new car being able to specifically choose how much V8 bellow they want to hear.

Other upgrades include automatic headlights and an improved climate control system. Vehicle Lift -- a system which allows the driver to raise the front and rear of the car for better ground clearance -- will also be available on the new car.

McLaren owners will be pleased to hear that many of the new features (excluding Vehicle Lift) can be retrofitted to existing MP4-12Cs.

The new MP4-12C is available to order now with prices starting from £176,000.
