Ford will use this weekend’s Silverstone Classic event to give the British motoring public their first chance to see the new Mustang in the flesh.
The all-new Ford Mustang was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, and next year will become the first Mustang ever to go on general sale in the UK.
The new Ford Mustang will be available as both a fastback and a convertible, and with a choice of two engines; a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged power plant producing 310bhp and 320lb/ft of torque, and a 5.0-lite V8 which delivers 435bhp and 400lb/ft of torque.
During the UEFA Champions League Final on May 24th, Ford made the initial five hundred European examples available for reserve online. They received five hundred applications in a staggering 30 seconds, with 130 of those applications coming from the UK.
The all-new Ford Mustang will lead a parade of over 160 classic Mustangs around the Northamptonshire track on the second day of the Silverstone Classic event, with the model celebrating its 50th birthday this year.
“The Silverstone Classic and the Mustang Owners Club half-century celebrations are the ideal stage to introduce the new Mustang,” said Anthony Ireson, Ford Britain marketing director. “The car has been designed from the outset to appeal to its traditional fans. It has the key design elements which evoke the essential character of the classic Mustang, allied to outstanding power outputs and a sophisticated new chassis.”
