Aston Martin has revealed the replacement for the DBS -- the Vanquish.

Although it utilises the same platform as the old DBS -- the VH platform -- the Vanquish heralds in the next generation of Aston Martins, and is fitted with a significantly upgraded version of Aston's venerable 6.0-litre V12 engine.

The engine now produces 565bhp and 457lb-ft of torque, translating into a 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 183mph. This means that the new Vanquish is the most powerful production Aston ever, barring the limited edition £1.2 million One-77. The power is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed flappy-paddle gearbox.

The new Aston is made entirely from carbon-fibre and not only has this improved the rigidity of the structure by 25%, it has also made the Vanquish very light at just 1739kg.

The Vanquish is unmistakably an Aston Martin -- Aston's designers must be some of the laziest in the world (after Porsche's, obviously) -- and new styling cues include elongated side strakes, a new waist and LED rear headlights inspired by those on the One-77.

Aston boss Ulrich Bez said, "Today's Vanquish is the ultimate expression of Aston Martin design ethos, engineering innovation and technical ability. It offers luxurious, continent-crossing capability and pure driving excitement without compromise."

On top of this, the Vanquish should also be relatively practical. It's available as either a two- or a four-seater (although be warned: the rear seats are only suitable for small children and victims of industrial accidents) and the boot offers a very reasonable 368-litres -- about the same as a small family hatchback.

The Vanquish will be built at Aston's facility in Gaydon, Warwickshire and the first deliveries are expected later this year.

Oh yes, and the small matter of the price; the Vanquish is yours for £189,995.
