Ford has announced a rise in both its car sales and market share in January and February.
According to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Ford commercial vehicles (CVs) maintained overall leadership of the CV market and the firm enjoyed a 14.5% share of the February market - 2.6% more than February 2011.
The figures demonstrate that Ford has earned the trust of UK drivers, and it can now boast of taking the elad in both the LCV and MCV segments. In addition, Ford Focus was the UK February bestseller while the Ford Fiesta was the UK's best seller in the year to date.
Up to 10,723 Ford Focuses were sold in the UK last February. This is 3.9% more than last February's 8,248 figure for vehicle sales. The Ford Focus also took a 6% share of the total car market in the second month of the year.
'Terrific performance' in the UK
Ford UK’s managing director, Mark Ovenden, admitted that the results were a positive sign for the firm's future:
"Ford's car range has started 2012 with a terrific performance that extends our UK lead in total car sales, and provides a good indicator for March, when sales are boosted significantly by the registration plate change."
Ovenden added that their 'best-ever' range of vehicles will grow even further thanks to a series of new launches this year, highlighted by a glittering display on the Ford stand at the Geneva Motor Show. "The list of upcoming models includes the new Ford B-MAX, the new Ford Kuga, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost Ford Focus, and the new Fiesta and Focus ST models," he said.
Overall, Ford's retail car market share for the year to February was 13.1%, which represents 1.9% more than the percentage registered during the same period last year.
