From January next year, 16-year-olds will be able to take to the road in this, the two-seater Aixam Coupe S.
The Aixam Coupe S might look like a car, but it is in fact a 'light quadricycle' which can be driven on a moped licence.
Powered by a 400cc diesel engine, the Aixam develops 5.63bhp and has a maximum speed of 28mph. Hardly the stuff of teenage fantasies, we admit, but it beats getting the bus.
At £9,999 the Aixam is not cheap, especially when you consider that, realistically, nobody is going to keep it for longer than a year; however, you do get a decent amount of kit for your money.
Alloy wheels and a CD player are both included and Aixam will even pay for your road tax for the first year which, when you consider that it emits just 77g/km of CO2 and is therefore entitled to free road tax, seems a little pointless.
Insuring the Aixam for a 16-year-old will be expensive too, costing around £2,200 a year.
The Aixam Coupe S will be launched at Motorcyle Live at Birmingham's NEC on Saturday.
