A test fleet of Skoda's first fully electric vehicle, the Octavia Green E Line, has begun putting the new car through its paces in everyday use.

The Octavia Green E Line, developed in cooperation with the Volkswagen group, will be Skoda’s first fully electric vehicle. A fleet of ten cars has now gone out onto the roads to test the vehicle in everyday operation.

The test fleet of Octavia Green E Line cars will provide feedback and insights into everyday use that the company hope will help them to make the vehicle suitable for mass production. The Octavia Green E Line, which has a top speed of 84mph and can accelerate from 0-62mph in twelve seconds, has been based on the Octavia Combi. The Combi was chosen because its chassis provided the best model for housing the battery and motor. The new electric car seats five people.

The lithium-ion battery which supplies the Octavia Green E Line's electricity is made up of 180 individual cells, can hold 26.5 kilowatt-hours of energy and weighs 315kg. It is mounted under the middle and rear floor panel in the boot.

Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. H.C. Winfried Vahland says of the new car:

"The Octavia Green E Line shows our technological expertise in the field of electric mobility. It is a milestone in our comprehensive sustainability strategy. Our development work in this field is in close cooperation with Volkswagen Group."

Meanwhile the Skoda board member in charge of research and development Dr. Eckhard Scholz commented on the firm's vision for the future, and their partnership with the Volkswagen group:

"Škoda and the entire Volkswagen Group have a long-time aim, and that is sustainable mobility based on renewable energy sources. There is no doubt electric propulsion is becoming more and more important for mobility with as low emissions as possible. Working as we are with our Group partners, we think we are making very good progress."
