Lexus have pushed the boundaries of in-car safety with their latest offering.
The NX 300h will be the first car to hit the UK market which comes fitted as standard with radar technology with the ability to detect possible accidents and act to avoid them. It will have a collection of safety features which Lexus describe as active, passive and preventative.
The pre-crash safety system detects obstacles and other vehicles on the road ahead using radar technology located in the front grill. If the car senses that an accident is likely then it acts to warn the driver using a buzzer and a visual warning; furthermore it activates seatbelt pre-tensioners in preparation for collision and can even apply the brakes if it feels that the driver is not responding to the hazard.
Adaptive cruise control will also use the front grill radar to sense vehicles ahead and can adapt speed to maintain a safe distance; once the obstruction clears, it will intelligently return to desired speed.
‘Active safety’ will include features which warn drivers when they are crossing lane markings and assist in monitoring the user’s blind spot. Teamed with the impressive airbag technology and highly resistant roof structure, the NX 300h seems to have all bases covered when it comes to occupant safety.
