Subaru is slashing the price of the BRZ in Britain by £2,500.
With prices for the BRZ SE Lux now starting from £23,995, the BRZ is now cheaper than the mechanically identical entry-level Toyota GT86, which costs £25,110.
Subaru claims that the price drop is due to an improvement in the exchange rate between the pound and the Japanese yen; however, there is speculation that the move is an attempt to establish a clear differentiation between the BRZ and the new £28,995 WRX STI.
It's also understood that the price reduction is an attempt to boost the slow sales of the BRZ, which has lagged behind the GT86 -- which itself isn't selling in huge numbers -- since the models went on sale in 2012.
The new price tag will come into effect on 1 May.
