Subaru has shaved £6,000 off the price of its WRX STI, which means it's now available for £26,995.

The new WRX STI also gets a power upgrade, boosting the existing 320R model's output to 316bhp. In addition to this, buyers can also pay an extra £1,559 to upgrade to the 340R models which develops 335bhp and 361lb-ft of torque.

The 340R will get from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds -- half a second quicker than the standard WRX STI.

All models are fitted with Subaru's legendary 2.5-litre boxer engine; however, the new, more powerful models feature revised ECU settings and a new exhaust which account for the improvement in performance.

Unfortunately, Subaru has decided not to change the WRX's rather, ahem, ungainly exterior looks; however, the Scooby has enough pedigree to overcome its challenging aesthetics. And what's more, it now costs around the same sort of money as a Vauxhall Astra VXR.

So, £27k for a rallying icon? We'll have ours in blue, with gold wheels.
