Subaru UK has secured an increased supply of the Subaru BRZ coupe for the British market, following a period of strong demand for the car.

The BRZ was launched in spring 2012; however, it has been consistently outsold since its launch by its near-identical sibling, the Toyota GT86. Nearly 1,500 GT86s were sold in the UK in 2012 compared to the 100 units shifted by Subaru.

Subaru's relative lack of success compared to Toyota can at least partly be put down to the fact that more GT86s than BRZs have been imported into the UK, with Subaru buyers having to endure a lengthy wait to get behind the wheel thanks to a limited supply of cars.

However, Subaru claims that the influx of new BRZs into the UK market, buyers should be able to take delivery of a new BRZ within two to six weeks of placing an order, depending on the colour and specification choices.

Paul Tunnicliffe, Subaru UK Managing Director, said: "The BRZ has been a sales success for us, but we’ve always struggled to match demand with supply. We're hoping that our larger allocation will address this, and we're confident that a greater number of car-loving buyers will now be able to appreciate the BRZ's blend of light weight, usable power and fine handling characteristics."
