The Volkswagen ID.5 is on sale now giving buyers a more stylish alternative to a traditional electric SUV.
Prices start from £50,550. It joins VW’s range of EVs that include the ID.3 and ID.4.
All ID.5s come fitted with Volkswagen’s largest EV 77kWh battery giving the car a maximum 313-mile range in 174PS rear-wheel-drive configuration. You can also choose from a 204PS rear-wheel drive model and a 299PS GTX four-wheel-drive version.
Charging speeds of up to 135kW mean you can fill the ID.5’s battery to 80 per cent full in less than 30 minutes using a public charger. Or add 62 miles worth of charge in less than six minutes.
The range kicks off with the Tech Pro that starts from £50,550 for a 174PS model and has kit such as matrix LED headlights, autonomous driving aids, augmented reality head-up display, tri-zone climate control and a powered tailgate. Upgrading to the 204PS version will cost you £51,940.
Mid-range Max Pro models are also available in 174PS (£54,050) and 204PS (£55,440) configurations. Standard kit on top of Tech Pro cars includes sports seats, adjustable dampers, and progressing steering that reduces the number of turns lock to lock.
GTX models sit at the top of the range and cost £58,640. GTX is punted as the GTI for EVs and it comes with sporty prerequisites such as 20-inch alloy wheels, a body kit, black exterior highlights and flashes of red on the inside. The GTX model only comes with 299PS and four-wheel drive that allows it to get from 0-62mph in less than seven seconds.
The 174PS models do 0-62mph in 10.4 seconds while 204PS cars do the same in 8.4 seconds.
As part of the ID.5 reveal, Volkswagen also announced a new version of the ID.4 called the Pro, it’s priced from £41,430 and is your cheapest way to get VW’s electric SUV with a 77kWh battery.
That said, you’ll have to put up with a specification that includes steel wheels with plastic wheel trims and kit that’s limited to automatic emergency brakes and a rear-view camera.
