The Yeti, an acclaimed compact SUV from Skoda, has won the prestigious Green Apple Environment award.

The Green Organisation is an independent group with a mission to promote the positive side of good environmental practice. The organisation has been running since 1994, and its annual awards ceremony serves to publicise the benefits and profits which can be gained from environmental best practice by honouring the best products.

This year the group set out the highlight the best new cars for the first time as part of these awards, and the Skoda Yeti E 2.0-litre TDI CR was chosen as the first ever winner in the 'Smaller SUV & 4x4' category.

The judging panel for the motoring section of the awards was made up from members of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers, who were asked to nominate the best contender from a shortlist of four vehicles. The Yeti's excellent fuel economy of 52.3mpg and low CO2 emissions of 140g/km, combined with its practicality and flexibility, pushed it out ahead of the competition.

UK Product Marketing Manager for Skoda, Chris Horrell, expressed the firm's delight at winning the honour, saying:

"The Yeti has been a game-changing car for ŠKODA and to win an award based around its environmental credentials is fantastic. That we're the first winner of this honour makes it doubly special."

The ŠKODA Yeti E 2.0-litre TDI CR is available to buy from a price of £16,170.
