The Skoda Superb has taken home the title of Towcar Of The Year for the second year in a row.

The Towcar of the Year Awards are an annual honours ceremony run by the Caravan Club, and this year they gave the top title in the £25,000 - £32,000 category to the Skoda Superb Estate Elegance 2.0-litre TDI DSG, the same family estate car which took home the title in last year's awards.

The judging panel for the awards was made up from a panel of seasoned caravanning experts and experienced motoring writers, all of whom were said to have been deeply impressed by the SKODA, saying that it was "effortless to drive and to tow with", and "the best on hill starts by a mile".

This year's contest saw thirty entrants taking part, drawn from a wide range of big-name car makers. Manufacturers could enter vehicles launched between 1st August 2010 and 30th September 2011, or vehicles which had been substantially modified during that period. These thirty vehicles were divided into three price categories for two wheel drive cars, and two weight categories for all-wheel-drive cars.

A rigorous testing procedure was conducted, as always, at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire. During the course of the tests the group of expert judges assessed each car according to their performance in a range of areas, including towing ability, acceleration, braking, and the ability to cope with steep hill starts with a caravan in tow. They also assessed the practicality and usability of each entrant for the needs of everyday caravanning

The Brand Director of SKODA UK, Robert Hazlewood, commented on the Superb Estate's win saying:

"Winning any honour once is a great achievement but to do it again is testament to the outstanding engineering, and quality of the ŠKODA range. We know the caravanning community is an enthusiastic supporter of the Superb Elegance Estate. Its powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine and efficient DSG transmission create a refined and stable base for stress-free long-distance towing."
