The SKODA Octavia GreenLine II has reinforced its excellent reputation for high environmental standards and low running costs by coming first in its class in a competitive fuel economy event.

Skoda's popular hatchback participated in the annual ALD Automotive/Shell FuelSave MPG Marathon, an event which has been organized by the publishers of Fleet World magazine.

The Skoda Octavia was driven by freelance journalist Sue Baker, with Peter Thompson providing the navigation assistance. The pair traversed a 370 mile course over two days through Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset.

Completing the course using just 4.31 gallons of fuel, the Octavia came out with an excellent fuel consumption figure of 85.98mpg, which represents a 15.7% improvement on the official combined cycle fuel consumption figure for the vehicle of 74.3mpg.

Although the Octavia came in third overall, first and second place were taken by a two seat city car and a supermini, so Skoda can be justifiably pleased with its third place overall finish for the larger Octavia, and with the title of 'Best Family Car'.

The technology behind the Skoda Octavia Greenline II which enables it to achieve such high efficiency includes a start-stop engine system, energy recuperation, and gear change recommendations. The same Greenline II technology is also available on the other cars in the Skoda range - the Fabia, Superb, Yeti and Roomster.
