At this year's Next Green Car Awards the Skoda Octavia Hatch Greenline II took home the top prize for the Best Small Family Car.

The Next Green Car Awards use the unique Green Car Rating system, which ranks each vehicle out of 100, looking at CO2 plus another seven exhaust emissions across the whole life-cycle of the vehicle. Using this system, the awards are able to compare cars which run on different fuel types on a single scale that does each one justice. At the end of the process, the lower the score, the more environmentally friendly the vehicle is, and the Skoda Octavia Hatch 1.6 TDi Greenline II came out with a winning score of 28.

The GreenLine II is the cleanest and most efficient Octavia ever made by Skoda, and aims to provide both private and fleet buyers with a car that does not compromise on performance, but yet offers an effective way to reduce both running costs and environmental impact. Its 1.6-litre TDI CR 103bhp engine uses common rail technology that offers the benefit of improved performance alongside quieter running, with fewer moving parts.

With CO2 emissions of 99g/km and fuel consumption of 74.3mpg for the hatch version, or 109g/km and 67.3mpg for the estate, the Octavia Greenline II matches most cars from the supermini sector in terms of cleanliness and efficiency, and it is also free from road tax if you buy the hatch, and free from road tax for the first year of ownership if you go for the estate.

The UK Product Marketing Manager for Skoda UK, Chris Horrell, welcomed the award saying:

"We are delighted to win this award. ŠKODA's second generation GreenLine product range has been developed to showcase cutting-edge technologies that reduce emissions and keep running costs to a minimum without compromising on the exceptional value for money and high quality for which ŠKODA has become famous."
