The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been named the ‘Best Luxury Car’ for the seventh year running in this year’s What Car? Awards.

The 2012 What Car? Awards ceremony took place last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The judging panel, made up of journalists from What Car? Magazine, described the Mercedes-Benz S-Class as "simply a staggering piece of engineering" as they awarded it the Best Luxury Car title for the seventh consecutive year.

The Editor in Chief of What Car? Chas Hallet commented:

"The S-Class still has the measure of its rivals on ability and build quality, and it retains its value better to boot."

Since it was first launched in 2005 the S-Class has sold over 13,800 units in the UK and more than 440,000 worldwide. The S 350 BlueTEC model features fuel economy of 45.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 164g/km, and is priced from £60,605 OTR.

Mercedes-Benz UK Limited's President and CEO Marcus Breitschwerdt accepted the award, saying:

"We know we have a great car in the S-Class and are delighted that What Car? recognise this too. Winning once is great but seven wins really asserts the S-Class as the pinnacle of luxurious motoring at its best. Our flagship saloon has continued to impress since we launched it in 2005 but we haven't rested on our laurels, since last year's win we have introduced stop/start to the S-Class range which has had a positive impact on both fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions."
