The votes have been cast in the annual Auto Express Product Awards and it seems that the gadget most motorists could not live without is sat-nav.

Over 25% of Auto Express readers voted for sat-nav as the most indispensable motoring gadget, ahead of air-conditioning and a stereo. TomTom also won the award for the best smartphone app, further proof that the humble road atlas is dead.

The top award for Product of the Year was given to the Pure Highway 300Di, an adapter which offers DAB radio and iPod connectivity when fitted to any car. Other winners included Turtle Wax for best wax, Continental for best winter tyre and Goodyear for best summer tyre.

The Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, Steve Fowler, said, "The Auto Express Product Awards is a chance for us to acknowledge the very best products out there for our readers to add value to their cars."
