Testing of the prototype right-hand-drive Ford Mustang has begun in preparation for its UK sales launch next year.
The Ford Mustang recently celebrated its half-century, and when the latest sixth-generation version goes on sale it will be available in factory right-hand-drive configuration for the first time in its history, opening up new markets for the legendary model.
The sixth-generation goes on US sale this autumn, and will go on sale in the UK next year. Testing of the first right-hand-drive Ford Mustang is being conducted in preparation for its introduction in more than 25 new markets including Australia and South Africa in addition to the UK. Development engineers will continue to test the prototype model over coming months.
Whilst the largest market for the Mustang is unquestionably in the US - with more than 9.2 million sales since the car's debut in 1964 - more than 161,000 Mustangs have also been sold outside of North America in that time. In 2012 over 4,000 new Ford Mustangs found buyers outside the North American continent in 35 countries across the globe, including the United Arab Emirates, Chile, and the Philippines.
