Renault has revealed the full UK specification details for its new Renaultsport Clio 200 Turbo.

Unlike its predecessor, which was fitted with a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine, the new Renaultsport Clio conforms to the current philosophy of downsizing and adding a turbocharger, and comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an EDC six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

But despite the reduction in engine capacity, the new Renaultsport Clio produces just as much power as its predecessor -- 197bhp, to be precise. The turbocharged engine also produces 18lb-ft more torque than the old 2.0-litre unit, bringing the total up to 177lb-ft.

0-62mph will take 6.7 seconds, a figure helped by Renault's fitment of launch control to the car's dual-clutch gearbox, and top speed is 143mph.

The new car is 36kg lighter than its predecessor at 1,204kg and not only does this contribute towards the car's impressive acceleration figures, it is also partly responsible for the fact that the new model's fuel consumption has decreased by 10.3mpg to 44.8mpg, while CO2 emissions have fallen from 190g/km to 144g/km.

All new Clio Renaultsports will come with 'RS Drive', a system which gives the choice of three settings -- Normal, Sport and Race -- and adjusts the engine management, throttle response, steering and stability control accordingly.

Also fitted is a new 'RS Diff', an electronic system which uses the brakes to mimic the effects of a limited-slip differential.

Buyers can also choose between standard or Cup chassis, which features suspension which is both 3mm lower and 15 per cent stiffer, and a quicker steering rack.

Like the standard Clio, the Renaultsport will be available in five-door form only. Cosmetic upgrades over the standard model include new bumpers and sills, twin exhaust pipes and 17-inch alloy wheels (18-inchers are available as an option) finished in either gloss black or anthracite.

Prices for the Renaultsport Clio 200 will be announced on 28 February, ahead of order books opening in April. The first deliveries will be in June.
