This is the Renault Scenic XMOD, Renault's crossover-style replacement for the long-running Scenic MPV.

Despite the lack of visual similarity, the XMOD is heavily based on the outgoing Scenic; however, Renault has given the car a more rugged design with new bumpers, sill guards, chrome roof bars, a raised ride height and new alloy wheels.

The XMOD is a front-wheel drive vehicle, but Renault has fitted it with its all-new Grip Xtend system, an advanced traction control system which it claims provides maximum grip under difficult driving conditions such as mud, sand and snow.

Drivers can choose from three types of assistance by turning a rotary knob on the centre console: In 'Expert' mode, the system manages the braking while the driver is left in charge of the engine's torque; in 'Road' mode, a conventional traction control system provides stability; and in 'Loose Ground' mode, the system optimises braking and engine control to maximise grip.

Renault claims that the XMOD "combines the outdoor cues of a crossover with the refined world of an MPV" and on the inside, boot space has been increased from 522-litres to 555-litres. Buyers will also get Renault's R-Link infotainment system which includes a seven-inch multimedia touchscreen.

To mark the launch of the Scenic XMOD, the Grand Scenic has also been restyled, and both models will make their debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
