Renault has confirmed the pricing structure for their electric Twizy city car, which will be available from early next year.
The frankly bonkers-looking part-car, part-scooter, can be ordered now with prices starting from £6,690. The two-seater is the French manufacturers’ interpretation of the future of city motoring. Driver and passenger sit line astern, and the resulting tiny dimensions should make the car adept at manoeuvring and parking in a crowded urban setting.
The 450kg electric motor can be fully charged in three and a half hours by connecting it to a domestic power socket. The 17hp motor will then be good for 62 miles of emission-free motoring.
The £6,690 price tag refers to the entry-level Urban trim, with the higher-spec Technic costing £7,400. In addition there is a leasing cost for the battery which, based on a 4,500 miles per year agreement, will set you back £40 per month for 36 months.
For a £20 deposit you can register your interest at www.renault-ze.com, in return for which Renault will contact you first when they officially put the car on sale early next year.
