Hot on the heels of the recent expansion to the Wind Roadster range, Renault have now announced that two new Clios will be added to the Giordini line-up, with prices starting from £14,000.
With Giordini sales already making up 27% of the total number of Clio Renaultsport sales in Europe, and more than 10% in the UK, Renault have decided to build on this popular and successful platform with two new cars.
The two new models aim to offer buyers the look and feel of Renault’s flagship Giordini 200bhp, but with a more efficient engine offering lower fuel consumption, along with lower CO2 emissions and running costs. The cars will be three door vehicles, one with a 1.6-litre VVT128 petrol engine, and the other with a 1.5-litre dCi 106 diesel engine.
The petrol model features the engine from the old GT, slightly detuned from the Twingo Renaultsport 133. Accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds, this engine offers an impressive combined fuel consumption of 42.2mpg and will have a list price of £14,000 OTR.
The second new Giordini variant, which comes with a 1.5-litre dCi 106 engine, will be priced at £14,950 on the road. With a top speed of 119mph and a six-speed gearbox as standard the diesel model is designed to be at home in the city or on the motorway. With a combined fuel consumption figure of 62.8mpg the diesel engine emits CO2 at only 110g/km, which means that owners will pay no road fund licence in the first year, and just £20 in the second year.
Featuring twin white racing stripes streaking across the bonnet, roof and tailgate and white electric folding door mirrors and front bumper strip, 16 inch Turini alloy wheels, body colour rear spoiler and twin tailpipe exhausts both of the new models will have an exterior styling which is instantly recognisable as belonging to a Giordini. Other enhancements to the external design include body coloured door handles and side mouldings, extra tinted side and rear windows, front fog lights and fixed cornering lights.
The standard body colour of the cars is to be Glacier White, with racing stripes, front bumper insert and door mirrors in Anthracite Grey for contrast. There is also the option for metallic paint, which comes in a choice of Pearl Black, Malta Blue or Ruby Red.
Each of the new models will also come with a good range of equipment as standard, including climate control, cruise control, front curtain airbags and a stereo system with CD and radio which features fingertip remote controls and 4x20W speakers.
In addition to this standard equipment there are several optional extras for those who wish to upgrade, such as an electric panoramic sunroof, multi-functional TunePoint, and Carminat TomTom Sat Nav.
There are also some nice styling touches on the inside of the cars, such as cloth upholstery with the Giordini logo which comes in grey as standard but can be changed to blue as a no-cost option, leather Giordini steering wheel featuring a white stripe and grey detailing, a satin chrome effect gear lever with blue Giordini badge and black surround on the nob, a white rev counter, and gloss black details on the central console and air vents.
Both of the new models are available to order from now.
