Land Rover has unveiled a host of changes for the Range Rover Evoque, including the addition of a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The new gearbox was first shown at this year's Geneva Motor Show and is the first nine-speed automatic gearbox ever to be fitted to a production car. It will come as standard across the Evoque range replacing the six-speed 'box currently used across the Evoque line-up.
Depending on the model, Land Rover claims that the new gearbox will lower fuel consumption by up to 11.4 per cent and reduce CO2 emissions by 9.5 per cent. The most efficient model in the range, the front-wheel drive 2.2-litre diesel, now returns a combined 57.6mpg and emits just 129g/km of CO2.
Another new addition for the 2014 Evoque is a what Land Rover calls 'Active Driveline', a new on-demand four-wheel drive system which improves efficiency by operating in front-wheel drive form only at speeds below 22mph. The system can reconnect the four-wheel drive within 300 milliseconds if it is needed.
The Active Driveline system also features Active Torque Biasing with an e-Diff, which distributes the torque between the rear wheels, optimising traction and stability.
A new Torque Vectoring by Braking system is also included as standard, which redirects torque between all four wheels to help minimise understeer.
The 2014 Evoque will also be available with a number of automatic parking features, traffic detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and wade sensing.
Styling-wise, virtually nothing about the Evoque has changed. There are some new badges and a number of exterior paint finishes; however, the new model is largely indistinguishable from its predecessor.
The 2014 Range Rover Evoque will go on sale in the autumn.
