The most powerful SLK ever made, the SLK 55 AMG, is available to order now.
Mercedes-Benz has announced the pricing for the SLK 55 AMG, which goes on sale from now from £54,950 OTR. Driving the SLK 55 is a new, naturally aspirated, direct-injection version of the AMG's 5.5-litre V8 engine. It is rear wheel drive, and includes a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. This innovative transmission system features three different modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual.
The new engine is capable of delivering 421bhp at 6,800rpm with peak torque output of 398lb-ft at 4,500rpm. This allows the SLK 55 AMG to sprint from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, with a limited top speed of 155mph.
The main focus of the SLK 55 AMG is high-performance, but these days every new car needs to take efficiency into consideration, so the fuel economy and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 30% by introducing a Cylinder Management System inspired by the one used on Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 engines. This works by shutting off two cylinders on each bank of the V8 when the car is being driven on light throttle loads. An ECO Stop and Start system has also been fitted, bringing the combined cycle fuel consumption to 33.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 195g/km.
To improve the handling, the new SLK 55 AMG it is fitted with AMG sports suspension as standard, along with Torque Vectoring Brake and Direct-Steer system.
In addition to the normal AMG body styling, the SLK 55 AMG also features unique front and rear aprons and side skirts. Other standard kit includes internally ventilated and perforated disc brakes, Nappa leather upholstery, 18 inch alloy wheels, Intelligent Light System, COMAND Online with DAB digital radio and Media Interface, and a range of safety features including HEADLAMP ASSIST, ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE and NECK-PRO.
