Porsche has revealed a new top-of-the-range Panamera, the Turbo S.
The big news is that Porsche has uprated the Panamera's engine. The 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 fitted in the Turbo S now develops 550bhp - 50 more than you get in the standard Turbo. You also get an extra 37lb-ft of torque, and during kick-down you get an extra 37lb-ft on top of that (590lb-ft in total) thanks to an over-boost function.
This power advantage is mainly due to improved turbochargers now featuring lightweight titanium-aluminium turbine wheels. The lightness of the turbine wheels results in a lower moment of inertia and means that the turbos can spin more easily.
The top speed of the Panamera Turbo S is 191mph and if you use launch control, you'll hit 62mph in 3.8 seconds. Despite this, fuel consumption is still pretty reasonable - the Turbo S returns 26.4mpg on the combined cycle.
You get a raft of driver aids fitted as standard including Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), a roll stabilisation system and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. On the outside you get 20" alloy wheels and special side skirts whilst on the inside you get two-colour leather upholstery.
The Panamera Turbo S will be in UK showrooms from July, priced from £122,623.
