PSA Peugeot Citroen will axe nearly half of its models by the year 2020, company boss Carlos Tavares has revealed.
The company currently builds 45 distinct models; however, Tavares -- who joined PSA from Renault earlier this year -- has confirmed that this will be reduced to just 26 over the next six years.
The move is part of Tavares' plan -- called 'Back In The Race' -- to restore PSA to profitability, following a long period of malaise for the firm, which has lost around £6billion over the last two years.
Tavares also announced that Citroen's posh DS sub-brand will be fleshed out into a "fully-fledged" premium marque, boasting some six models by 2022. Citroen, meanwhile, will focus on producing more affordable, idiosyncratic cars, while Peugeot will fill the gap between the two, offering a mid-level range of cars.
PSA is also keen to boost its sales in China, following Chinese company Dongfeng's investiture in Peugeot in February. Currently, 38 per cent of Peugeots are sold outside Europe -- a figure which PSA wants to increase to 50 per cent by next year.
So, given PSA's ambitious fat-losing plans, which cars would you like to see the back of and which cars should they hang on to? Let us know by commenting below.
