Peugeot have a busy weekend coming up with models past and present taking part in two very different London/Brighton runs.
This Saturday two micro-hybrid Peugeot 508 e-HDis, one driven by former Formula One World Champion Damon Hill, will take part in the RAC Future Car Challenge. The event, which comprises a 57-mile route between Madeira Drive in Brighton and London's Regent Street, is a low energy driving challenge for electric, hybrid, and low-emissions vehicles. In addition to the 508s, Peugeot will also be entering a pair of all-eletric Peugeot iOns, and two Peugeot 3008 Hybrids. The latter is the first diesel electric hybrid, and one of the two in the event will be entered by Bosch, who supply its electric motor rear axle.
The following day will see the famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, which will see no fewer than seventeen Peugeots taking part. The oldest date from 1896, with three Peugeot Vis-à-vis models and a Peugeot Phaeton dating from that year. The event commemorates the original run which took place on 14th November 1896 between the Metropole Hotel in London and the Metropole Hotel in Brighton. On that day 33 motoring pioneers took part to demonstrate the capabilities of their new-fangled horseless carriages, along with celebrating two recent motoring acts - one which increased the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph, and a second which did away with the requirement to have a man waving a red flag proceeding on foot ahead of each motor vehicle. On the original run electric, steam, and internal combustion power were all represented.
