Peugeot has demonstrated the grip control on its 3008 Crossover by setting an unusual record.
In a stunt also aimed at highlighting the importance of grip in severe weather as winter approaches, the Peugeot 3008 Crossover became the first-two wheel drive vehicle ever to drive up the 170-metre, 1-in-3 gradient, snow-covered slope at the Tamworth Snowdome. The slope had previously been conquered by four-wheel drive vehicles fitted with snow-specific tyres, but the 3008 relied on its Grip Control system to reach the summit.
The Grip Control system is a standard feature on the 3008 Crossover, and is also available on the Sport, Exclusive HDi 112, and Exclusive HDi 150 models in the Peugeot 3008 range as a £470 optional extra. The traction control system detects low grip surfaces, and automatically alters the 3008's traction in response. It works in tandem with the car's electronic stability programme, and has five different operating modes accessed via the control panel on the centre console: Standard, Snow, All-terrain, Sand, and ESP Off.
Also fitted as standard are 215/60 R16 Michelin Latitude Tour HP tyres, with 'StabiliGrip' blades in the tread pattern which lock together to aid tread contact and are suitable for off-road driving.
"I was totally astounded at its ability", said James Smith, Tamworth Snowdome's Operations Manager, "The 3008 felt totally at home on the slope, more so in fact than some 4x4s that I've driven."
