The Peugeot 208, which will be launched this summer, will have an extra small steering wheel to give it a more sporty driving experience.

Gilles Vidal, the Design Chief for Peugeot, has announced that the Peugeot 208 out this summer will feature a small steering wheel to increase the sporty character of the car.

The new 208 is being shown at the Brussels Motor show until 22nd January in a pre-production mock up form, and the final production model is due to gets its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The team behind the new 208 have been working hard to make it more sporty and appealing, and the sports style steering wheel is part of that process.

Vidal says that he and the team behind the new 208 have been trying to create a 'classless car' that improves on the best qualities of the 206 and 207, and captures the spirit of the 205GT, adding:

"There are a lot of little things that, when put together, make sense and help make the car more sporty," he said.

The new steering wheel will have a diameter of just 35cm, which is smaller than the wheel on the RCZ sports car. The average steering wheel diameter is between 36cm and 37cm. In order to facilitate the smaller wheel the new 208 has a higher instrument panel, so that the driver can look over the wheel rather than through it.
