Nissan have scooped the top prize at the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards.
The award ceremony took place at London's Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and saw the Japanese manufacturer crowned Low Carbon Car/Van Manufacturer of the Year. The awards recognise both manufacturers and fleet operators who work to develop products and services designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nissan also beat a shortlist of 44 manufacturers and organisations to win the Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport Award.
Nissan are crediting the launch of the fully electric Nissan LEAF in March this year as a major factor in impressing the panel of judges at the awards ceremony, who referred to the manufacturer as "a leader in the electrification of transport." The £25,990 Nissan LEAF is currently available in the UK through 32 specialist Nissan EV dealerships, although the manufacturer has announced an expansion of that network in 2012. The 5-seater LEAF has a range of 110 miles under electric propulsion, with a Nissan study finding that 80% of daily drives in the UK cover just 30 miles on average.
