Nissan has released the details of its latest GT-R.

The latest incarnation of the GT-R will go on sale in Japan later this month before arriving in European showrooms from early 2012. The range will also feature a 'track focused' version, which Nissan has confirmed will be available in the UK and Japan only.

At 542bhp, the GT-R is now more powerful than before, with a slight improvement in fuel economy to 24mpg. Revisions to the air intakes and to airflow resistance and intake efficiency have also seen improvements in engine response and torque levels, with a new maximum output of 466lb-ft.

The new GT-R has also received asymettrical suspension, which Nissan claims will improve handling on right-hand drive models. This is due to the propshaft for the front wheels being located on the right-hand side of the vehicle, which is balanced out by the weight of the driver in left-hand drive models, something which the new suspension on right-hand drive GT-Rs will compensate for.

Other changes see the use of competition-developed differential oil in the latest GT-R, and strategic reinforcements to the bodyshell which the manufacturer claims will aid the responsiveness and handling characteristics of the car.

Inside, the dashboard has received blue lighting, and a rear view camera will now come as standard on all new Nissan GT-Rs, as will a Bose Precision Sound System.

Full information, including UK pricing structure, is expected to be confirmed early next month, along with further details of the track focused version of the GT-R, which Nissan has announced it is developing in right-hand drive form only.
