The winners of the Next Green Car Awards 2012 have been revealed today.

The Next Green Car Awards are the self-proclaimed "most scientifically-based" awards of their type.

Eight winners have been chosen in eight different categories and a Gold Award for best overall car has also been awarded. The awards are based on the true lifetime emissions of a car, not just the tailpipe CO2 reading, and the cars are awarded a Green Car Rating (GCR) from out of 100, with 0 for the greenest cars and 100 for the most polluting.
