Toyota’s new Yaris has passed its Euro NCAP crash safety testing with flying colours, achieving the top overall rating of five-stars.

The third-generation of the Toyota Yaris has emulated the record of its two ancestors by earning full marks in the independent NCAP crash testing scheme.

Toyota announced a number of improved occupant safety features for the new Yaris model, with seven airbags including a driver's knee airbag. Its front side airbags have a twin-chamber design allowing larger cushions, and the structural design of the car has been engineered to strategically disperse impact forces away from the passenger cabin.

Pedestrian safety is improved by an energy absorbing front bumper designed to reduce impact forces on lower legs in a collision, and a bonnet constructed to absorb and reduce impact forces directed at head and body in a pedestrian collision.

Other standard safety features on the new Yaris which helped it to its five-star overall rating include ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Corner Stability Control, Brake Assist, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control.
